Taxis in Madrid are white with a red diagonal stripe on their front doors and the city’s shield. If a green light is showing on the roof that means they are available. Travellers simply need to raise a hand to stop them in order to be picked up.
There are a lot of taxi ranks throughout the city indicated by a blue sign with a white letter “T” on it. At train and bus stations and at the airport, taxis have to be picked up at the designated taxi ranks. In the rest of the city they can be hailed in the street. In Madrid, fares can be paid in cash or by card as taxi drivers are required to have a payment terminal with them. A flat fare of €30 from the airport is charged regardless of the time, every day, all year round, for journeys in either direction between the airport and the area of the city falling within the M-30 orbital motorway. We suggest requesting a taxi that is adapted for wheelchair users or a Eurotaxi in the following ways: Asociación Eurotaxi por la Movilidad y Accesibilidad (AEMA) (Eurotaxi Association for Mobility and Accessibility)
