Declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1998, lying to the east of the Madrid region and only 30 kilometres from the capital, the city where Cervantes was born is a great place for walks. You can explore its streets and squares, visit its museums and monuments, have something to eat in one of its quality restaurants and have a coffee or a drink in the evening in one of its cafes or bars with outdoor seating. Then you can take home a typical confection, such as “almendras garrapiñadas” (sugared almonds) or “costrada”, a cake made with meringue, cream and puff pastry.
